Editorial Flow

European Public & Social Innovation Review (EPSIR) only receives manuscripts through its editorial management platform, OJS (Open Journal Systems). In case of technical difficulties, authors may contact: editor@epsir.net. Upon submission, the system will automatically generate an acknowledgment of receipt, which will be sent to the submitting author's email.

Preliminary Review

Once the manuscript is received, it will undergo an initial evaluation by the Editorial Board. At this stage, the article will be reviewed to ensure it meets criteria of clarity, relevance, thematic alignment, and adherence to the journal’s editorial guidelines. Failure to meet any of the requirements listed in the Submission Checklist will result in automatic rejection of the manuscript. Within a maximum of 15 calendar days, authors will be notified of the outcome of the initial evaluation—whether the manuscript is accepted for peer review or rejected.

Peer Review Stage

If the manuscript is accepted in the previous stage, it will enter the double-blind peer review process. Two external expert reviewers will be assigned, selected according to their area of expertise and with no affiliation to the author’s institution or to the editorial bodies of Revista de Comunicación y Salud. They will evaluate the article confidentially and anonymously using the journal’s reviewer form.

The total duration of the review process will largely depend on reviewer availability and the number of revision rounds required. If necessary, the manuscript will be resubmitted to the reviewers until a final decision—acceptance or rejection—is reached. Authors must always include a justification for the changes made and explain any disagreement with reviewer comments. The maximum time frame for the complete scientific evaluation (including all review rounds) is 90 days.

In each round, authors will have a maximum of 15 calendar days to submit corrections, depending on the number and complexity of the requested changes. As a general rule, the journal allows no more than three rounds of revision.

EPSIR guarantees that authors will be promptly informed of decisions regarding their manuscripts. This communication will include the rationale behind the decision—acceptance, acceptance with changes, or rejection—as well as reviewer reports and editorial evaluations. This practice ensures transparency and respect for the authors’ scholarly work.

Editorial Stage

Once accepted, the manuscript enters the editing and proofreading stage, which includes orthotypographic, bibliographic, and style revisions. The estimated time for this phase is 15 working days, although it may vary depending on the authors’ responsiveness to editorial requests and the editorial workload.

Production and Publication Stage

Once the editorial phase is complete, the final version of the article will be sent to the authors for final approval. At this stage, only orthotypographic (not content-related) corrections may be requested. Authors will have two calendar days to review and confirm.

Upon approval, the journal will generate all required publication formats (PDF, EPUB, HTML, XML) and activate the corresponding metadata.

It is important to note that all mentioned time frames are estimates and may be affected by factors such as reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, and communication flow between authors and the editorial team.

Continuous and Early Access Publication Model

Since 2024, EPSIR has adopted a continuous publication model, meaning that articles are published individually and openly as soon as they complete the editorial process. Each approved article is immediately incorporated into the current issue of the corresponding year.

Once the annual volume is completed, the journal continues to receive and process manuscripts. Articles that successfully complete all editorial phases—including peer review—are published under the early access model. This allows them to appear in the “Accepted Articles” section and receive their DOI, making them fully citable, even if the corresponding calendar year has not yet officially started.

The “Accepted Articles” section is activated only once the current year's volume has been officially closed and the next volume is being assembled.
