La comunicazione medico-paziente come prevenzione del contenzioso per medical malpractice

Introduzione: Con medical malpractice s’intende il flusso di denunce che investe le aziende ospedaliere e che, sempre più spesso, riguarda carenze nella relazione di cura e difetti compromettono l’alleanza terapeutica. Metodologia: revisione della letteratura inerente alla comunicazione medico paziente e alla correlazione fra denunce e qualità della comunicazione con il paziente. Risultati: le esperienze internazionali hanno fornito numerosi elementi concreti per valorizzare un piano di miglioramento della comunicazione medico-paziente. Discussione: il potenziamento delle performance comunicative e relazionali degli operatori sanitari va perseguito come indice di qualità, etica e legittimità delle cure. Si propone un programma interno di formazione specifica sulle abilità relazionali, direttamente nelle equipe sanitarie. Conclusioni: oltre alla comunicazione verbale tra medico e paziente, anche il supporto modulistico scritto svolge un ruolo cruciale, sia come patto di cura sia nelle sedi giudiziarie.
