Abstract

Introduction: After the reestablishment of relations between Spain and the United States, and within the period characterized by the resurgence of cultural and academic Hispanism at the beginning of the 20th century, we meet the figure of Amelia Agostini de del Río, Puerto Rican professor and writer. Methodology: Our main source work is the book Rosa de los Vientos, published in 1980 by Agostini, in which she writes about her personal and professional life, although other types of documents will also be used, such as private letters or historical press. With this we intend to approach a character little studied, and her relationship with other hispanist intellectuals. Results: After a brief review of her early life and academic and intellectual journey, we have focused on the relationships that Agostini developed with two intellectuals, on the one hand, with José de Diego, a Puerto Rican politician and lawyer, and on the other with Susan Huntington Vernon, a North American professor and Hispanist. Conclusions: Both intellectuals were determinant for Amelia Agostini de del Río’s academic life, being de Diego her first referent in poetry, while Huntington helped the Puerto Rican author to get a job in the United States.
