Resilience strategies for coping with community tourism disruptions in Puno, Perú

Abstract

Introduction: The objective was to describe the resilience strategies developed by families from communities that carry out community tourism to overcome the disturbances it generates. Methodology: It was a qualitative research and 111 families who offer tourism in the peasant communities of Llachon and Ccotos, Puno –Peru- participated. Results: Some resilience strategies were: permanent training on recycling and good environmental practices to contribute to the conservation of wild flora and fauna. Likewise, basic training in: customer service, marketing, languages ​​and finances to face independent ventures. Also the creation of various specialized services for community tourism and finally access to microcredits and commercial agreements with travel agencies. Discussion: Resilience strategies constitute the powerful engine to face difficulties that arise in community tourism activity. Conclusions: The resilience strategies used by families were consolidated over time, the product of permanent training by private and public organizations, through transfer of practical knowledge through technical assistance and internships of some members of the communities.

Guicela Iris Huatuco Soto, National University Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza

Master in Ecotourism Sciences and Bachelor in Tourism Administration from UNMSM, with professional experience in different public and private organizations related to tourism, in different regions of the country. She has also worked in biodiversity conservation programs in different areas of Peru. Currently, she is an assistant professor at the Universidad Nacional Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza in the department of Amazonas. She has completed studies in the “Master of Public Policy with mention in Management of Social Projects” at the UNMSM, in addition, she won a scholarship to take the intensive course on “Cultural Heritage and Resources for the Strategic Development of Local Tourism” in the country of Belgium. She also studied “Public Management with Intercultural Approach”. She had the experience of being an external peer reviewer for the journal PASOS, Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, indexed in SCOPUS.

Blanca Flor Robles Pastor, National University Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza

Professional specialized in studies and research on social, educational, health, economic and other indicators. Specialized in applied statistics, specialist in research training and with high pedagogical training. University professor and trainer in teacher training programs of the Ministry of Education of Peru. Dedicated to the analysis of multivariate data in applied research and market studies with management of specialized statistical software. Evaluator of research projects and scientific articles. PhD in Education. Master's degree in Applied Statistics and statistics for the public sector (studies completed at the University of Alcalá-Madrid). Master's degree in Higher Education Didactics.
