Abstract

Introduction: Disinformation is a critical challenge for social understanding and democracies, which has driven initiatives to address its causes and solutions. Methodology: Media disinformation, as a critical challenge, has driven a bibliometric analysis of 41 postgraduate theses from Peruvian universities. Through conceptual mapping, key concepts, categories, and relationships were identified. Results: Peruvian university theses highlight that media disinformation, especially in the digital realm and during the pandemic, is a complex phenomenon that affects public perception and trust in the media. They emphasize the need for a comprehensive approach that includes media literacy and regulations to tackle informational manipulation and strengthen social resilience. Discussions: Media disinformation, intensified in the digital age, has distorted reality and undermined democratic values, leading to polarization, radicalization, and distrust in the media, which has driven governmental actions and studies to address this challenge. Conclusions: The theses have broken down disinformation, making the problem more visible and allowing for the development of effective solutions and policies for its mitigation.
