Mobile application to managing prescription medications and tips for mitigating irresponsible self-medication and its side effects

Abstract

Introduction: This work summarizes the findings presented through the development and testing of a mobile application for the Android operating system, which seeks to store information related to prescription and/or over-the-counter medications, as well as generation of advice related to self-medication and its consequences. side effects, which threaten health due to unresponsible intake and without clear medical information without adequate professional support. Methodology: The project used a descriptive qualitative research methodology based on the SCRUM project management methodology and the development of mobile applications using Mobile-D. Results: Most of the Colombians surveyed are unaware of the side effects of the medications they buy and ingest, but they do worry about acquiring medications prescribed by a doctor or that they are sold to them in good condition, the use of project management tools along with agile methodologies such as Mobile-D that allow the generation and refinement of user stories. Discussion: it is important to verify that not only can the use of telemedicine solutions contribute to the mitigation of irresponsible self-medication, doctors and institutions must promote these initiatives in addition to having better support. Conclusions: Many Colombians want to have a technological tool to learn more about self-medication, the use of mobile applications aimed at Android devices allows greater penetration of mobile medicine solutions, health entities and institutions must implement monitoring and post-care tools. primary care of their patients, not just developing applications to automate administrative processes.
