Introduction: The election of Giorgia Meloni as President of Italy in October 2022 was hailed as a positive event for feminism. Several Italian and foreign media and political analysts predicted that the appointment of a woman as President of the Council of Ministers could represent an opportunity for Italy to move forward on the path of equality and women's rights. Methodology: From a methodological point of view, we have researched both the official declarations of the current Italian government and Meloni's interviews, speeches and interventions on issues such as feminism, abortion, the defense of the natural family and what she defines as gender ideology. Results: Throughout the article, it will be shown that Meloni defends her own vision of feminism and promotes a political agenda in which feminist demands are absent. Discussions: Meloni's performance in these two years not only demonstrates the deep-rootedness of a patriarchal conception of society, but also that the political will to act in favor of equality and promote a feminist agenda is fundamental. Conclusions: Being a woman does not automatically entail being a feminist.
