The objective of this writing was to compare the cognitive functions and depression rates of women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatment with the cognitive functions of women without the disease. Methodology: Descriptive comparative study with women diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatment (case group) and with women without the disease (control group). The groups were matched by education and socioeconomic conditions. The following instruments were used: Semi-structured interview questionnaire; Beck Depression Inventory; Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (QFC); Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Comparison between the two groups (women with and without breast cancer) was performed using the Student's t test for independent samples or its non-parametric equivalents at a 95% level. Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the research included 15 women with breast cancer and 15 women without a diagnosis. There was no statistically significant difference for cognitive function indices and depression indices between the groups. Conclusions: Cognitive impairment induced by chemotherapy treatment does not produce differences in cognitive functioning and depression rates in women with breast cancer and those without the disease.
