Abstract

Introduction: The covid-19 pandemic brought significant challenges to broadcast journalism. To secure jobs and operations, newsrooms had to adapt their work routines, to comply with restrictive measures imposed by governments. Methodology: This investigation sough to identify which specific challenges arose, which routines were altered to overcome them and, mainly, which ones were reverted when restrictions ended, as well as how many became permanent. The subject of this study was the Portuguese channel TVI, with 12 interviews with employees, conducted between December 2022 and March 2023.  Results: The results revealed that the greater portion of employees started working from home (following a rotating system), an increase of daily tasks and the use of low-quality equipment and software to keep the news broadcast going. Conclusions: By 2023, most of the new routines have been eliminated, although some seem to have become permanent.
