Abstract

Introduction: This study analyzes the media coverage of climate summits in the news programs of the Spanish television channel TVE from January 2014 to June 2024. Methodology: Relevant news items were extracted using the Verba tool from the Civio Foundation for subsequent analysis employing natural language processing (NLP) techniques and discourse analysis. Results: The analysis shows that most of the news items have a neutral tone, with significant coverage peaks during November and December. The predominant themes include energy transition, global challenges, and climate commitments. Political figures and international entities play a prominent role in the media narrative. Discussions: These findings are interpreted in the context of existing literature, highlighting how the results contribute to understanding the relationship between climate events and media coverage. Conclusions: The importance of balanced and accurate media coverage to positively influence public perception of climate summits is emphasized. It is recommended to consider greater inclusion of collaborative narratives and continuous training for journalists on climate issues.
