Abstract

Introduction: The specificities of the digital environment have brought about profound changes in traditional journalistic uses, standards and formats. In this sense, front pages in digital media fulfil different functions to those of their counterparts in print media and they do so through specific practices to deal with these specific circumstances -such as length, technical limitations or update rates, among other issues-. Methodology: This research proposes an analysis sheet for the systematic collection of data on the design, structure, content and elements of any digital media front page, and tests it with the digital editions of El País and El Mundo. Results: The result is a consistent and useful tool for further analysis of these new forms of journalistic communication. Discussion: It would be feasible to raise possible adaptations of the sheet depending on the type of research that is intended to be carried out. Conclusions: In order to investigate these digital front pages as differentiated elements, it is essential to have a specific instrument adapted to their characteristics, such as the one included in this proposal.
