Introduction: This study analyzes the media coverage of social movements in the news programs of the Spanish television channel TVE from January 2014 to June 2024. Methodology: Relevant news items were extracted using the Verba tool from the Civio Foundation for subsequent analysis employing natural language processing (NLP) techniques and discourse analysis. Results: The analysis shows that most of the news items have a neutral tone, with a significant number of negative news items in 2019. The predominant themes include political transformation, defense of rights, and political dynamics in Spain. The representation of social movements in the media shows variability in its focus and tone over time. Discussions: These findings are interpreted in the context of existing literature, highlighting how the results contribute to understanding the relationship between social movements and media coverage. Conclusions: The importance of balanced and accurate media coverage to positively influence the public perception of social movements is emphasized. It is recommended to consider greater inclusion of positive and collaborative narratives as well as a critical reflection on the role of the media.
