Introduction: UN-Habitat advocates for the development of urban public spaces that are safe, comfortable, inclusive, and green. In light of this, there is growing concern regarding the edges of rivers and creeks, recognizing them as complex public spaces that should be developed following the principles of habitability. This study aims to capture the perception of a segment of Loja’s citizens regarding the edges of urban creeks, often regarded as "oblitopías" or forgotten spaces. Methodology: The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques, and is non-experimental in nature. Using analytical, synthetic, and descriptive methods, a structured online survey was administered via the KoBoToolbox tool to a convenience sample of 283 young adults (ages 18 to 25). Sixteen responses were selected from a total of 26 questions, addressing habitability dimensions such as physical-spatial, environmental, and psycho-spatial, essential for understanding participants' perceptions and reevaluating the habitability of the creeks. Results: The findings suggest that participants are aware of both the issues and the potential of the creeks, appreciating their landscape value and expressing a strong interest in participating in efforts to recover these spaces as habitable public areas. Discussion: The perceptions of Loja’s citizens highlight the need to revalue the edges of urban creeks, recognizing them as valuable green spaces with potential benefits for urban well-being. However, transforming these "oblitopías" into habitable areas presents challenges, including their neglected status and the lack of effective interventions to rehabilitate them as accessible and sustainable public spaces. Conclusions: The study concludes that there is a willingness among Loja’s young adults to contribute to the recovery of urban creeks as habitable public spaces. It recommends that urban planning efforts include these creek edges, promoting inclusive and sustainable habitability that could transform these areas into places of recreation and connection with nature.
