Abstract

Introduction: In the context of the complexities that Chilean education is going through, this research aims to contribute to the methodological processes in the area of teaching design and architecture, and to reflect on the importance of memory and habitat in the relationships of meaning that are established between different human beings. Methodology: This research analyses an experimental academic project, which uses metaphor as an episteme, and which has consisted of designing travelling continents, through the valuation of the autobiographical capital of each student, and which are constituted from the relations of three constitutive principles: education, memory and the idea of the journey as a process of transformation. Results and Discussions: It presents a selection of projects developed by students from two Chilean public universities that are representative of the processes of memorial self-construction and their extensions towards the design of a possible project. Conclusions: This research concludes that through the use of metaphor it is possible to contribute to the production of complex thinking in relation to territory and memory, allowing students to recognise the magnitude of the impact that their work has on the notion of reality that is projected to the community.
