Introduction: High blood pressure is a global health problem, associated with high mortality. In Ecuador, 45% of hypertensive patients are not diagnosed. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 184 adults. Blood pressure was measured to identify hidden morbidity of high blood pressure and risk factors were identified. Results: The mestizo ethnic group (91.3%) and the age group of 60-64 years (29.9%) predominated. 75.5% reported a family history of high blood pressure, a personal history of obesity (29.3%), dyslipidemia (26.6%), and diabetes mellitus (7.1%). The most frequent risk factors were sedentary lifestyle (78.8%), unhealthy eating (59.2%) and smoking (13.6%). 50 people (27.2%) were identified with high blood pressure levels, of which 34 (18.5%) were in the prehypertension range and 16 (8.7%) were in the hypertension range. Discussion: None of the patients in whom high blood pressure levels were found reported symptoms, so these patients may have maintained high blood pressure levels for a certain period of time, with the possibility of damage to target organs existing. Conclusions: The research carried out allowed us to identify hidden morbidity of high blood pressure in a group of people and guide them towards health care.
