Introduction: Innovation requires novel ideas, which is affected by fixation. Industrial engineers are agents of innovation and it is relevant to identify aspects that, incorporated into their professional training, allow them to strengthen their creative skills. The study seeks to identify sources of fixation during ideation, as well as stimuli that can reduce it. Methodology: A comparison of the creative skills of 28 students from lower and upper semesters of industrial engineering is made. AUT and RAT are applied as measurement tools. An analysis of the impact of stimuli generated by ideation methods is carried out: brainstorming, design by heuristics and analogical thinking. Results: An increase in the quantity, fluidity and variety of the group was observed with training in convergent and divergent processes, as well as a reduction in fixation from the use of stimuli in the ideation phase. Discussions: AUT training shows an increase in quantity, fluency and variety. The application of stimuli as analog thinking and design by heuristics reduces fixation. Conclusions: Training in divergent, associative and convergent thinking, social interaction and motivation improve the quantity, fluency and novelty of ideas by reducing fixation.
