Abstract

Introduction: Social participation in sports leisure activities during young people's free time is an important factor that can influence the personality, behaviour and quality of life of this group. Methodology: This work follows the PRISMA method to analyse the evidence provided by various research studies in Spanish and English. All publications with empirical results that were published in the last three years and collected from the following databases: Web of Science, Scopus and Dialnet. Publications were screened and selected, resulting in a final selection of 49 manuscripts. Results-Discussion: The results suggest the emergence of the causes that lead young people to practice team sports leisure activities or to abandon them, including the influence that this leisure activity has on personal development, improving physical and mental health through sports participation in everyday life situations, attending to vulnerable populations, harassment and sexual abuse. It also evidences the influence of social networks on the practice of this type of leisure. Conclusions: Therefore, these activities can benefit programmes and interventions with young people.

Julio Alfonso Novoa López, National University of Distance Education

Diploma in Primary Education, specialising in Physical Education from the Complutense University of Madrid. Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences from the European University of Madrid (UEM). Master's Degree in Socio-educational Intervention in social contexts from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Tutor in the Master's Degree in Teacher Training in Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training at the UNED.

 

Hassan Hossein-Mohand, Centro Asociado UNED Melilla

Degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Madrid, and Master's Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention from the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Madrid. He has been a Lecturer in different Secondary Education Centres since 2003, and Lecturer-Tutor in the Department of Mathematical Physics and Fluids at the UNED since 2008. He obtained his PhD degree with his doctoral thesis in the Education Sciences Programme in the Department of Pedagogy at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is actively developing research lines related to technology and mathematics learning. He specialises in language learning and distance learning.

 

Ángel De-Juanas Oliva, National University of Distance Education

He is Professor of Social Pedagogy at the National University of Distance Education (UNED, Spain) since 2009. He holds a PhD in Educational Psychology (UCM) and a degree in Psychopedagogy and Pedagogy (UCM). Director of the research group in Socio-educational Intervention (UNED) and Coordinator of Studies of the Master in Educational Intervention in Social Contexts. Finally, he is Associate Editor in the area of Didactics of Physical Education in the journal RICYDE and secretary of the Journal of Psychology and Education.

 

Hossein Hossein-Mohand, University of Granada

Degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Madrid, and Master's Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention from the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Madrid. He has more than 16 years of experience as a teacher in different Secondary Education Centres. He is currently Professor of the Department of Didactics of Mathematics at the University of Granada and Professor-Tutor of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the UNED since 2008. He obtained his PhD degree with his doctoral thesis in the Education Sciences Programme in the Department of Pedagogy at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
