Analysis of the internal quality assurance processes in distance programs for the strengthening of careers: management and practices in two private Chilean universities

Abstract

Introduction: The pandemic forced higher education in Chile to quickly adopt digital platforms and train its teaching and administrative staff, which revealed multiple challenges. In this emerging context, the question arises regarding the quality assurance of higher institutions in Chile that offer distance programs. Methodology: For this research, a phenomenological-hermeneutic methodology was used from a qualitative approach. Two Chilean universities with online programs in the Metropolitan regions were selected. The participants were informants who fulfill functions as teachers, managers and/or directors. Results: The main findings highlight the need to improve digital skills, technological infrastructure, flexibility and customization in distance educational programs in favor of quality in online education. Discussion: In addition, the need for continuous training and flexible and personalized strategies for distance education is emphasized. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study contributes to the field of distance education, providing a solid theoretical basis and practical recommendations to improve the quality and effectiveness of online programs in the Chilean university context.

Author Biographies

Diego Marcial, Universidad SEK

Diego Antonio Marcial Alamilla, academic with extensive training and experience in education and management. He holds a PhD in Management from Universidad Yacambú and a Master's Degree in Management from Universidad de Carabobo. Currently, he is the Career Director of Physical Education Pedagogy, Physical Activity Sciences and Physical Preparation Technician at SEK University, Chile. His research focuses on management and leadership, organizational development and physical activity sciences. He has published books and articles in indexed journals. Currently, she is developing her postdoctorate in education, folio No. 3230219 funded by the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development, Chile (Fondecyt).

Raquel Elizabeth Villalobos Lara, Universidad SEK

Academic and researcher, with a solid background in education and literature. She is a high school language teacher, with a degree in Hispanic literature and education. Master in Literature and PhD in Chilean and Hispanic American Literature from the University of Chile, where she was a Conicyt scholarship holder. Specialized in methodologies and didactic strategies in education. She leads projects focused on improving educational quality, integrating advanced pedagogical practices, seeking new ways to enrich and transform education in Chile. She has presented her research and articles at national and international conferences, demonstrating her commitment to the dissemination of knowledge and educational innovation. Currently, she is the Director of Teaching at Universidad SEK-Chile.
