Abstract

Introduction: The National Diagnostic Evaluation is an examination administered during the penultimate year of the Physical Education Teaching Degree programme in Chile. Objective: This study aimed to analyse the disciplinary results of the National Diagnostic Evaluation in the Physical Education Teaching Degree between 2021 and 2023. Methodology: A quantitative, non-cross-sectional methodology was used. The sample consisted of 3,877 fourth-year students from 30 Chilean universities. Test results were obtained from open data provided by the Ministry of Education’s Centre for Studies in October 2024. Results: Topic 2 – Programming and Implementation – yielded the highest scores (p = 0.000). Regarding the assessed standards, Standard 3 – Understanding the importance of physical exercise in developing lifelong active and healthy habits – showed the most significant decline (p = 0.000). Comparisons between publicly and privately funded institutions revealed significant differences favouring the latter (p = 0.000). The best overall results were obtained in 2023. Conclusions: Future studies should conduct an in-depth analysis of study programmes, accreditation years, pedagogical standards, and teacher training models to enhance understanding of these findings.
