Introduction: Social intervention and the response to gender violence must be addressed from a gender perspective, which requires specialized training and an explicit commitment to gender equality. Although this commitment is intrinsic to Social Work, the pandemic and increasing gender inequalities have challenged academia and the profession. Methodology: First, a literature review was conducted on the state of the issue. Second, a documentary analysis of the teaching guides from 37 Spanish universities was carried out to identify content related to gender, gender-based violence, and gender inequality in the courses. Results: The current starting situation was revealed. Courses that included these topics in their titles, content, and bibliographic references were examined. Discussion: The study reveals a concerning dissonance between academic aspirations and the practical implementation of teaching on gender inequalities and violence in Social Work in Spain. Conclusions: There is a significant disconnect between academic goals and practical teaching on gender. Recommendations and suggestions are proposed to improve practice and training.
