Introduction: This systematic review aims to explore researchers' attitudes towards academic publishing by identifying their beliefs and concepts; opinions and values; emotions and feelings; moods; tendencies and inclinations, as well as predispositions related to this process. Methodology: The PRISMA guidelines are followed, covering studies published between 2019 and 2023 in the databases Scopus, Web of Science, Eric, and Dialnet, focusing on the research areas of social sciences, humanities, and psychology. Information synthesis is done through categorization, based on pre-established categories and subcategories according to the three components of attitude. Results: Researchers tend to exhibit positive predispositions towards academic publishing without overlooking its complexities. A mix of emotions and attitudes is observed amidst institutional and contextual pressures to publish. Discussion: The practical relevance of the findings for the academic publishing processes of researchers in their institutions and contexts is addressed. Conclusions: Researchers' attitudes towards academic publishing are intrinsically complex, influenced by emotional, contextual, and institutional factors. The pressure to publish significantly impacts researchers' attitudes, especially among younger academics.
