Abstract

Introduction: The research considers like the objective to determine if the level of knowledge and the environmental awareness influence on the pro environmental behavior among students in a University. Methodology: The research is explanatory, non-experimental and transversal. The sample included 140 participants. The tools included, a questionnaire focused on determining the level of knowledge; the scale structured about the New Ecological Paradigm and the scale focused on the Behavior to Protect the Environment. In order to contrast the hypothesis, the ordinal logistic regression analysis was used. Results: It was determined that the environmental awareness influence on the pro-environmental behavior (p-value 0.017). Discussion: The level of knowledge does not influence on the pro-environmental behavior, in contrast to the environmental awareness, which was identified the influence on the focused group. Finally, according to the environmental awareness, it was identified facets that influence on the pro-environmental behavior. These are the limits of growth (p-value 0.035), natural balance (p-value 0.011) and ecological crisis (p-value 0.008). Conclusions: Aspects related to environmental concerns would impact protective environmental practices in some way.
