Abstract

Introduction: Dating violence is a social problem with significant impacts on adolescent health. In Mexico, no digital interventions aimed at preventing dating violence have been identified. This study aimed to culturally adapt “Dating SOS,” a Brazilian digital intervention based on the Transtheoretical Model of Change and Attachment Theory, to the Mexican context. Methodology: The adaptation followed Barrera and Castro’s Cultural Adaptation Framework and the Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications-Expanded (FRAME). Results and discussion: In phase one, content was translated and focus groups were conducted. The mean age of participants was 18.7 years; 75% were female, and the average relationship length was 1.5 years. A total of 82.5% identified as heterosexual, 2.5% as belonging to an ethnic group, and 5% reported a mental health condition. Instruments showed acceptable Cronbach’s alpha values. In phase two, substitution and contextual adaptations were made to enhance cultural relevance. In phase three, 100% of participants found the content and duration appropriate. In phase four, website modifications were implemented. Conclusions: “Dating SOS Mexico” was well received by adolescents and is ready to advance to phase five to assess feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness.
