Introduction: Scientific Communication (SC) and Science Journalism (SJ) are essential for access to knowledge and an informed citizenry. Analyzing academic production in these fields allows for the characterization of approaches, evolution, and institutional distribution in the development of Peruvian higher education. Methodology: A Systematic Literature Review of Peruvian theses on SC and SJ analyzed 24 works selected under rigorous criteria. Key methodologies, approaches, and findings were identified, providing a clear and differentiated view of the academic development of both disciplines in the Peruvian context. Results: Peruvian academic production in SC and SJ reflects their democratizing role, aligning with international literature. SC stands out for its theoretical solidity, while SJ maintains a practical focus, though with still limited functions. Training gaps and conceptual confusion persist, but there are opportunities for improvement through comprehensive education, institutional articulation, and innovative methodologies. Discussion: SC shows theoretical and methodological progress, whereas SJ reveals structural weaknesses such as low doctoral production and limited societal engagement. These findings provide a critical basis for future research and training policies in science communication. Conclusions: SC and SJ are key to democratizing knowledge, yet their development within the Peruvian university context remains incipient.
