Abstract

Introduction: Empowering rural women is essential to overcome barriers in their context. This study identifies the key variables and characteristics that influence their empowerment within agriculture. Methodology: The existing literature on the subject was reviewed using the content analysis technique. Results: The analysis revealed that personal development, education and training, health and well-being, economic autonomy, decision-making, leadership, support networks and legislation are key factors in measuring rural women's empowerment in agriculture. Discussions: The continued commitment of local authorities is essential to materialize policies, programs and initiatives that promote the empowerment of these women. Conclusions: Understanding the profile of rural women is vital to understand how they interact with available resources. This makes it possible to identify particular dynamics and design interventions for the development of specific capacities and skills for women's empowerment and entrepreneurship in agriculture. In this way, one can better respond to their specific needs and foster positive change at the individual, community and societal levels, contributing to sustainable and inclusive rural development.

Magda Alejandra Martínez-Daza, Corporación Universitaria de Asturias

Master in Education and Virtual Learning Environments, Specialist in Computer Management and Professional in Business Administration, qualified as E-Researcher. Recognised by MINCIENCIAS as a Researcher. Professional experience focused on university teaching in postgraduate, undergraduate and continuing education programmes in face-to-face, virtual, dual and combined modalities. Leader of processes of renewal and support of qualified registration in virtual undergraduate programmes before the Ministry of National Education of Colombia and has directed formative research in virtual seedbeds. Her work has earned her recognition for the development of innovative initiatives in higher education in 2020. Author of publications on teaching innovation and research in education and social sciences, she is also a trainer in financial education and tutor of educational projects for rural teachers.
