Abstract

Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the radio landscape. This study comparatively analyzes the implementation of AI in two regional public broadcasters in Spain -Onda Madrid and Canal Sur Radio- and in the curricula of the Degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication of the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Seville. The main objective is to evaluate the integration of AI in the professional practice of radio broadcasting and in university education. Methodology: Documentary analysis, interviews with public broadcasters and review of radio-related subjects. Results: it is evident that change in public institutions is slow, both in radio and in universities, a lack of implementation of AI tools for radio production has been detected.Discussions: Onda Madrid has not started the technological transformation towards AI. In RTVA (Canal Sur Radio), a MediaLab has been created to implement these tools, aware of the advantages, however, there are ethical concerns and resistance from some professionals. Conclusions: In academia, no progress is observed in the integration of AI in subjects linked to radio.
