Social cohesion and collective participation in post-conflict contexts: A multiple correspondence analysis and cluster methods

Introduction: This article aims to explore how social cohesion and collective participation contribute to the reconstruction and strengthening of the social fabric in post-conflict contexts, emphasising the inherent resilience and strength of the community. Methodology: A quantitative approach was employed, based on the administration of 405 surveys to direct and indirect armed conflict victims in Colombia, who belong to social organisations in El Castillo, Meta Department, Colombia. Multiple correspondence and cluster analysis were performed to determine the variables that shape social cohesion in this context. Results: The findings reveal that participation in commemorative events, workshops, and reconciliation activities are fundamental elements for the reconstruction of the social fabric, while identification with collective memory processes strengthens the community belonging sense. The participation of women in these social reconstruction processes is highlighted. Discussion: This study contributes to the understanding of the mechanisms of community resistance and resilience in the face of violence, providing insights for the public policies design aimed at building territorial peace.
