Abstract

Introduction: Revolution 4.0 may increase economic divergence if its benefits are not distributed equitably. This study analyzes the impact of the digital divide on inequality and economic growth. Methodology: A mixed methodology was used including a literature review on the impact of technologies on economic growth and a data analysis on access to technology in different countries. Results: The results show that information and communication technologies have an unequal impact on economic growth depending on the country. While basic technologies have shown convergence, advanced technologies, which drive economic growth, show greater disparities. Discussion: The study highlights that access to advanced technologies in less developed countries can contribute significantly to their economic growth, helping to reduce global inequalities. Conclusions: Promoting access to technology in developing countries can favor their economic growth and reduce inequalities through transformations in the labor market, financial inclusion, and improvements in health and education.
