Contrast of training plans in tourism degrees in Chile and Mexico: educational approaches and contemporary challenges

Introduction: This study focuses on identifying similarities and differences in educational approaches, as well as the current challenges faced by these careers. Methodology: This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Additionally, a concurrent triangulation design was utilized to identify similarities and differences in educational approaches and curricular content among undergraduate tourism training programs in both countries. Results: The analysis reveals similar training in management and sustainable development; however, significant variations are observed in elective specializations and languages offered. Discussion: This article highlights several contemporary challenges affecting both programs, including the need to update curricular content to adapt to new trends in smart destinations, cybersecurity, and digitalization. Conclusions: The article underscores the importance of adapting tourism training programs to current market demands and constant changes in the global environment, proposing closer collaboration between educational institutions in both countries to share best practices and enhance the quality of tourism education.
