Abstract

Introduction: In recent years, the use of mobile phones among young children has increased, raising concerns about the risks associated with the lack of parental control. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the level of parental involvement in controlling mobile phone use among children in a public educational institution in Arequipa. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, and correlational study was conducted, applying the Parental Control of Mobile Use Questionnaire (CCPUDM), validated by three experts, to 62 parents of both sexes, with an average age of 32 years. Data collection was carried out using printed questionnaires, and statistical analysis was performed with SPSS, using descriptive statistics and the Spearman’s Rho coefficient. Results: Results showed that 68% of parents demonstrated a low level of control over their children’s mobile phone use, while only 12% reported adequate control. A significant correlation was found between parents’ educational level and the control exerted (Rho=0.41; p<0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded that low parental involvement increases the risks associated with screen use in children, highlighting the need to strengthen parent guidance programs.
