Food practices and nutritional status in primigestas at term

Abstract

Objective: To know the feeding practices and their relationship with the initial nutritional status of primigravidas in two health facilities in Huánuco 2023. Methodology: Relational descriptive study, non-experimental design. Population 650 primigravidas from two hospitals, the sample being n1= 143 primigravidas from Hospital II EsSalud Huánuco and n2=149 primigravidas from the Carlos Showing Ferrari Maternal and Child Hospital; technique: documentary analysis and survey, instruments: data collection sheet and Food Practices Scale. Bioethical principles, informed consent and review by a research ethics committee were taken into account. SPSS software version 28.0 was used for data analysis, presenting the descriptive and inferential results. Results: General characteristics: 68.84% were adult pregnant women; 65% came from urban areas; 36.3% were housewives.  Regarding the variable initial nutritional status, on average 66.8% had a normal weight; Regarding the assessment of feeding practices, 90.9% and 86.6% of pregnant women had inadequate feeding practices; The inferential statistics obtained a Chi square of 6.44 p=0.37>0.05. Conclusions: Feeding practices are not related to the initial nutritional status of term primigravidas.

She has held the following positions: Head of the Academic Department of the Faculty, Dean of the Faculty of Obstetrics, Director of the Research Institute of the Faculty, Academic Director. Author of several scientific articles in areas such as: Health and Education. She was a guest lecturer at the University of Castilla La Mancha- Spain.

Julio Tueros Espinoza, Hospital Carlos Showing Ferrari

Doctor in Health Sciences, Master in Education with mention in Educational Management and Planning, specialised in High Obstetric Risk by the National University Hermilio Valdizán. Obstetrician graduated from the National University San Cristobal de Huamanga. Part-time associate professor at the Faculty of Obstetrics of the Universidad Nacional Hermilio Valdizán, as well as thesis advisor. Attending obstetrician at the Carlos Showing Ferrari Maternity Hospital.

José Bernardino Gutarra Vara, Universidad Nacional Hermilio Valdizán

Surgeon graduated from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, specialising in Gynaeco-Obstetrics with a Master's degree in Public Health and Health Management and a Doctorate in Health Sciences. He teaches at the Faculty of Human Medicine at the National University Hermilio Valdizán. Author of several publications in the journal Investigación Valdizana.

Obstetrician graduated from the San Cristóbal de Huamanga National University, with a Master's degree in Public Health and Health Management from the Hermilio Valdizán National University, specialist in High Obstetric Risk from the University of Huánuco. Lecturer at the University of Huanuco. Author of several articles on maternal and perinatal health.

She held positions as vice-president of ANEOP - National Association of Obstetric Students of Peru.
