Abstract

Introduction: This paper reflects on the use of Discourse Analysis (DA) in the Social Sciences, highlighting its theoretical evolution and its application in the study of social communication. Objective: To explore the main currents of DA and analyze its role as a methodological tool to understand communicative phenomena, especially in contexts of crisis or media catastrophes. Results: The study focuses on two key axes: the growing attention to language derived from the linguistic turn, and the cognitive revolution that consolidates DA as an approach that considers language as the interpretive core of social processes. Methodology: Through a critical review of literature and applied cases, the epistemological and methodological implications of DA in contemporary social research are examined. Conclusions: DA not only highlights the importance of language in the construction of knowledge, but also redefines the forms of research and the very notion of language as an active agent in the shaping of social reality.
