From Fruit to Future: VIEM and SIGIN as Drivers of Agro-Industrial Development

Abstract

Introduction: The Colombian agribusiness sector is undergoing a transformation, driven by the interest in adding value to tropical fruits. This study focuses on the underutilization of green mangoes in the Atlántico region, proposing their conversion into high-quality wine as a solution to the surplus in Barranquilla, with the aim of reducing waste, adding value, and promoting efficient resource management. Methodology: A descriptive and evaluative approach was used, integrating qualitative and quantitative data through a systematic review of relevant literature and documents. Results: The proposal promotes local entrepreneurship, economic diversification, and job creation, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8 and 12). The main challenges identified were the lack of standardized formulas and the need for legal protection of the winemaking process. Discussion: The project highlights the potential of establishing a quality benchmark in the agribusiness sector, emphasizing the importance of ensuring long-term viability through the protection of innovation. Conclusions: This initiative represents a viable agro-industrial alternative, with a strong technical, socio-economic and environmental impact, and with a promising emerging market, whose future sustainability depends on effective protection and implementation strategies.
