Reliability and internal consistency of the Good Living scale to be measured in older people in Chile

Abstract

Introduction: The study presents the reliability and internal consistency of the Buen Vivir scale in older people (PM) in Chile, addressing the concept of Buen Vivir from a holistic perspective, integrating three dimensions of harmony: intrapersonal, interpersonal and with nature. Methodology: An exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional design was used, applying the scale to a national sample of older people. Reliability was evaluated by test-retest, with Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients. Results: The scale showed high reliability and internal consistency in its three dimensions. The statistical coefficients were high, confirming the stability and coherence of the instrument. Factor analysis supported the proposed three-dimensional structure. Discussion: The findings challenge traditional models focused on the material and individual, and reinforce the importance of personal, social and natural harmony in the well-being of old age. The scale provides evidence for the design of more comprehensive public policies and social practices. However, the voluntary sample limits representativeness and the three-dimensional focus circumscribes the social and cultural depth of the construct. Conclusions: The research contributes to disciplinary progress, offering a valid and reliable tool to measure Good Living, and opens new possibilities for future interventions and studies in various contexts and scenarios.
