Abstract

Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to revolutionise the museum experience across the board. Museums will benefit from AI's ability to analyse visitor data, deliver personalised educational content, manage the institution and preserve heritage. Methodology: This analysis uses a systematic literature review, using the PRISMA protocol, of recent studies and literature to elucidate the applications of AI in museum settings. Results: AI enhances museum activities, exhibitions, and educational practices by providing personalised and adaptive experiences. Discussion: While the transformative potential of AI is evident, challenges remain, such as ensuring authenticity, security of digital representations, protection from environmental hazards, unauthorised access, and ethics. Conclusions: AI has immense potential to enhance visitor engagement, digital preservation, and educational outreach in museums. Despite the challenges, the evolving technology offers promising avenues for improving museum experiences and educational outcomes. Further research and collaboration are essential to maximise the benefits of AI while addressing these challenges.
